The section “Modern History” has its origin since 1953, and “Contemporary History” began its work in 1968. Since 1990 two sections united in one - Modern and Contemporary History, with period of science interest – 1878 to present days.
In the section work 3 curators – senior specialist Angel Djonev, Vasilka Stoyneva and Yordanka Yancheva. Result of collective activity of curators, worked in past and present, are 25 000 items in basic and science fund. The curators take part in publishing of folders, brochures, act as authors of documentary collections, articles in science magazines, they arrange museum exhibitions and photo exhibits. Among remarkable items are photo collection of Luka Maleev from First World War, glass photograph tablets of A. Yovev concerning liberating struggle in Macedonia, fund ”Yordan Zahariev” for Second World War, Nepal collection of climber Lyudmil Yankov, Arctic collection of Vassil Zahariev.
