Fabrics are major part of traditional Bulgarian material culture.
In the region of Kyustendil fabrics are made through “light and fourth” technique. For its produce fabrics materials from animal (woolen materials, silk, weave-made material, fur) and plants (linen, hemp, cotton) are used, all fully colored and decorated.
According their use fabrics are divided on separate types: used for clothing, home decoration, with economic use, and fabrics for customs and holidays.
Clothing fabrics include weave-made materials – hemp, “mixed” (combination of cotton and hemp), white (cotton and ‘boiled’ silk), woolen fabric. To improve quality of woolen fabrics, they are “rolled”.
Home decoration fabrics include – bedspreads, sheet, tablecloths, towels, carpets, pillows, etc.
In fabrics with economic significance bags, rucksacks with different use, cradles, saddle-bags take part.
Ritual fabrics, especially for Kyustendil region, are represented by unique towel “bending”.

Folk costumes from Kyustendil region are rich source for history exploration, artistic opportunities and desires of population. Along with the local variety, their relation with traditional Bulgarian clothing is shown.
In the costumes social status appears, and personal belong to age and gender is pointed out.
In the men’s costume white-dress clothing is permanently replaced by black-dressed clothing in post-liberation years. Most colorful part of the decoration is white and black stripes. On the shirt and trousers a dark blue or red woolen belt is worn. Also for upper clothes sleeveless jacket and coat are used.
Women’s costumes in Kyustendil are – “saya” type, skirt type and urban clothes from Renaissance period.
In “saya” type upper clothes for married women are – ‘kasache’, later replaced with ‘dgube’ – type of sleeveless jacket. Extra accessories to women’s costume are woolen and silk belts, hand-made socks, decorations.
Along the Rilska river skirt type clothing is replaced by urban type most early in Bulgaria. On the shirt (cotton type without embroidery) a cotton or woolen sleeveless blouse is worn, and a dress.

Jewelry is a traditional accessory to women’s costume. They give solemnity and glamour. They are made most common of silver (or an alloy of silver and copper), bronze, sometimes are golden, produced in different techniques: in foundry, blacksmith shop, filigree, hemstitched, decorated with precious stones.
Decorations are – earrings, ‘shivering’ rings, “tepelutci”, necklaces, bracelets, rings, pafti
Most of them, apart from its practical significance, are a feature for woman age and social status: maid decoration on the head is barer than that of married woman; only married women can wear pafti. Development of jewelry and decoration walk along with Bulgarian traditional clothing.

The fund “Art folk crafts” originated in 1978 within Etnologic section included over 120 exhibit materials - made of ceramics, wood-carving, weave materials, fabrics, music instruments. Since now they number 350 materials.
Various and well developed are ceramic materials, bronze foundry materials, produce of iron and precious materials. Well dignified is produce of traditional music instruments: svorche, wooden flute, rebec, pandore, etc.
In June 1980 in Kyustendil a section was originated which united masters of Art folk crafts linked to Committee of Culture. In 1984 it included 8 persons, involved in regional and international exhibits of folk arts.
