Section Etnology  |

Section Etnology was originated in 1963 as integral part of Regional Museum of History – Kyustendil. As a result of terrain explorations and collection activity lifestyle materials and items of culture from Kyustendil region are gathered and kept.
In 1978 a fund was opened within the section, called “Folklore crafts”, and in 1979 another fund – “Folklore”, was originated. Apart from collection activity in years up to 2003 over 20 etnographic exhibitions were held: in Kyustendil, Dupnica, Pernik; a travelling exhibition (presented in towns in North Eastern and Central Bulgaria). Materials took part in 3 regional and national exhibits held by UCFA (Union of craftsmen of folklore arts) and 2 international in Oreshak, Lovech region; three reviews of traditional clothing were presented – 2 in Kyustendil and 1 on National TV (TV magazine “By the spring”). Three movies shot by section specialists took participation in Festival of etnologic and antropologic movies – in Yugoslavia and Romania; etnographic materials from museum were exhibited in Cuba and Japan (1976), Mexico (1978), USA and Yugoslavia (1981), and Poland (1995).
On the territory of Kyustendil region 4 etnologic collections are kept, with materials reviewing folklore of the villages: Vaksevo, Goranovci, Zlogosh and Poletinci. As a result of science work over 10 articles and studia are published in scientific editions.
Today curators are senior specialist 2nd degree Dr. Ekaterina Keremidarska and specialist 3rd degree Veska Spasova.
