NewsThe Cutlery – Tradition and Modern Times in the Gabrovo Region Exhibition is visiting the House Museum of Dimiter Peshev in Kyustendil

From 19th of March to the end of May 2011 the Etar Architectural-Ethnographic Complex in the town of Gabrovo visits the Kyustendil Regional History Museum with its exhibition devoted to the cutlery at the Gabrovo Region.
The town of Gabrovo with its vicinities is one of the most popular cutlery centers within the Bulgarian lands during the Bulgarian Renaissance. There are more than 150 types of different knives. The exhibition with its 19th century exhibits presents the peculiar tradition and succession in knives’ production within the region of Gabrovo. There are also different legends about the knife and the knife’s saint-patron St. Atanas presented. Through donations, buying and master contests organized at the Etar, today the Etar Museum possesses one of the biggest knife collections of contemporary Bulgarian masters in cutlery.


The exhibition is arranged at the House Museum of Dimiter Peshev in Kyustendil and contains over 130 exhibits. It is accompanied by bazaar of the Etar master in cutlery Andey Andreev who will show his mastery during the exhibition opening. There will be presented a museum’s documentary film on the Gabrovo tradition in the knives’ production.

Opening: 19th of March 2011 at 4.00 pm at the House Museum of Dimiter Peshev.
